ABOUT US
Founded in 1996, The Mental Health Coalition of Rockland
County, Inc. is a non-profit organization of mental health
professionals, families, and consumers working together to reach out to the
community with up-to-date education and
information about mental illnesses.
Through a variety of educational
programs we aim to increase understanding about these disorders, to dispel
many of the myths surrounding them, and to encourage treatment.
The Mental Health Coalition has a
variety of committees that plan and conduct workshops, public forums, and
educational presentations to elementary, middle, high school, colleges, and
other public groups.
The Coalition has received national
recognition as the winner of the Public Affairs Network Award from the American
Psychiatric Association (APA) and is the recipient of grants from The Honorable
New York State Senator Thomas Morahan and the APA.
OUR ONGOING PROJECTS:
Our work focuses on educating the
public about the signs and symptoms of mental illness, depression, bipolar
disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, co-occurring substance abuse
disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, approaches to intervention and
treatment, suicide prevention, mental health resources, and how to foster hope
for recovery.
